Simplot closing two Idaho processing plants

The J.R. Simplot Co. announced Nov. 9 that it plans on closing two Idaho processing plants, one in Aberdeen and one in Nampa in the next two to three years. The closures will be made following the construction of a state-of-the-art potato processing plant in Caldwell, Idaho, with anticipated start-up expected by the spring of 2014.

Simplot’s new plant will be a 380,000 square-foot facility built on the site of the company’s original processing plant in Caldwell.

According to the Simplot press release the proposed plant is designed to produce the same output as the three older plants, create a smaller carbon footprint, use less water and be more energy-efficient.
