Red River Valley Shippers to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research

Red River Valley shippers hope to raise $250,000 to be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation based in Frisco, Texas. The Red River Valley is the largest red potato producing region in the United States, shipping close to five million cwt. of potatoes this past season.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission is to save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms for those in need throughout the United States.

The idea came from Randy Boushey who runs A&L Potato in East Grand Forks, Minn. Boushey came up with the idea at a Red River Valley shipper’s meeting earlier this year to discuss marketing strategies.

Red River Valley Potatoes tagged with a pink ribbon Kwik Lok will be available to retailers throughout the United States. Point-of-Sale signs are also available for retailers participating in the program by contacting their shipper, or the Northern Plains Potato Growers Association.
