Potato pest confirmed at Ontario farm

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says it has quarantined an Ottawa-area farm after finding a microscopic pest that can damage potatoes and other crops.

Potato rot nematode, or Ditylenchus destructor, is a microscopic pest that lay eggs in potatoes, carrots and other crops and then can spread to other healthy crops. It spreads mainly through the movement of infested planting material and soil, the inspection agency said in a statement Thursday. From CBC News
