October Potato Processing in Idaho and Malheur County Down 4 Percent

Processors in Idaho and Malheur County, Ore., used 7.79 million cwt. of 2007 crop raw potatoes during October, down 4 percent from October 2006, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. For the 2007 crop, processors have used 18.7 million cwt. of 2007 crop raw potatoes to Nov. 1, down 5 percent from last year. Idaho potatoes account for 13.5 million cwt. of the total processed. The remaining 5.19 million cwt. were produced in other states. Processors in Washington and other Oregon counties have used 22.3 million cwt. of 2007 crop raw potatoes to Nov. 1, down 6 percent from last year.
