Michigan Potatoes announces new line of IQF potatoes

The Michigan Potato Industry Commission, joined by Michigan Freeze Pack, has introduced a new line of individually quick frozen (IQF), water-blanched potato products. The frozen potato products were developed in part by a Michigan Value Added Grant through the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and were unveiled at the 50th Anniversary Michigan Restaurant Show Oct. 17 and 18.

“We haven’t had a frozen potato product produced in Michigan in over 20 years,” said Mike Wenkel, the commission’s executive director. “We’re excited to have Michigan Freeze Pack on board to provide Michigan potatoes to the frozen market.”

Director of sales for Michigan Freeze Pack Amy Mathews said there was a definite need in the marketplace for Michigan-produced IQF potatoes at a competitive price.
