Northeast potato shipper Bushwick Commission has launched its new value added line of petite potatoes, “Get Saucy Potato Sides.”
Get Saucy potatoes are petite potatoes with a shelf stable, ready-to-use sauce. Get Saucy potatoes are the product of more than one year of research and development that included product testing and development to identify appropriate flavor profiles, pack sizes and more, according to Bushwick.
Ken Gray, executive vice president of Bushwick remarked, “Research shows that potatoes continue to be a perennial favorite as a side dish but we needed to meet consumers demand for great flavor and deliver on the promise of convenience.” Gray continued, “Aside from potatoes being a consumer favorite, sales data also continues to prove double digit opportunities with value added products and they are good for the category.”
Get Saucy potatoes come in three flavors including Creamy Herb, Spicy Chipotle and Savory Bacon. The value added potatoes are sized small potatoes for speed and consistency in cooking, according to Bushwick. Prep is limited to rinsing and adding the potatoes to a bowl, microwave for seven minutes, stir in sauce and then they are ready to serve.
“This has not been an easy product to launch but we knew we needed to do something different and sauces were something new – we didn’t want to be just another dry seasoning packet,” said Gray. “The beauty of these sauces are that they are shelf stable and they follow trends seen across the store in other products and categories for more sauce based items that consumers have come to expect and equate to freshness and quality.”
The Get Saucy products will be available in limited quantities starting Oct. 1. Consumer packs will retail for a SRP of approximately $3.99 for a 27-ounce package and come in a 9 count case. Marketing and merchandising programs may include display ready merchandisers and demos upon request.
