McCain Foods expands New Brunswick facility

McCain Foods (Canada) is expanding its Florenceville-Bristol french fry plant. The expansion will create 40 to 50 new jobs, according to McCain Foods. The company is adding a new production line to meet growing demands for hash brown patties and similar potato products.  The $65-million investment will include a 32,000 square foot expansion to the existing fry plant as well as state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and technology. Processor appeals $213,000 safety violation fine

Washington Potato Co. is appealing a $213,000 fine from the Washington Department of Labor & Industries, the Tri-City Herald reports. The potato processor was reportedly fined for repeat safety violations. OSHA fines potato processor $273,000 for gas release

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found an Idaho potato processor failed to safeguard employees and was unprepared to respond to a potentially lethal release of 1,300 lbs. of anhydrous ammonia on Dec. 1, 2015. OSHA has issued Dickinson Frozen Foods a $273,000 fine. The company received 19 serious and two willful citations following the hazardous release. McCain Foods USA to renovate Burley, Idaho plant

McCain Foods USA will begin a major capital improvement and renovation of its Burley 2 potato plant in Burley, Idaho. The project begins this fall and is scheduled for completion in two years. The Burley 2 facility was built in 1964 and produces a variety of straight cut, crinkle cut, coated and non-parfry potato products that are distributed across North America and exported to Asia.
