Two foodservice giants, Sysco and US Foods, to merge

Sysco and US Foods have agreed to merge, in a deal with a total enterprise value of approximately $8.2 billion. The merger has been approved by each company’s board of directors. Power Packs aimed at school foodservice

Freshway Foods has launched a new line of products for the school foodservice market, called Power Packs. Power Packs are individually packaged fresh-cut fruits and vegetables for schools participating in the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Companies plan special activities at PMA foodservice show

Three companies are each planning special events for the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Foodservice Conference July 25-27 in Monterey, Calif. Crunch Pak will feature peach mango flavored sliced apples. These are sliced apples dipped in a solution that infuses the apples with the aroma and taste of peaches and mangos. United praises new school snack standards

A new set of USDA standards called “Smart Snacks in School,” aimed at improving the nutritional quality of foods and beverages offered for sale to students in schools, was praised by the United Fresh Produce Association.
