Yara acquires ZIM

The Norwegian company Yara International has purchased German water sensor company ZIM Plant Technology.

ZIM Plant Technology sells crop water sensor technology, used primarily in high-precision irrigation systems.

Yara, based in Oslo, Norway, produces agricultural inputs including fertilizers, ammonia, nitrates, NPK and specialty fertilizers.

Egil Hogna, senior vice president and head of downstream, said the purchase was “a strategic step for Yara into a new segment of the precision farming business.”

Completion of the purchase is scheduled for January, 1, 2014.
