Gov. Rick Snyder to Michigan Farm Bureau: Agriculture has bright future

Gov. Rick Snyder says agriculture is the "shining star" of Michigan's industries and a key engine in driving the state's economy.

"You're the group that kept us going during 2000 to 2010," he said Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Michigan Farm Bureau's annual meetingat DeVos Place. "You're among the people that have the brightest best future of any group in Michigan."

During the town hall style meeting, he encouraged farmers to not be conservative when approaching the five-year goals laid out in 2011. The goals were to increase economic impact of the industry by $100 billion, double exports, increase jobs by 10 percent, increase access to healthy food by 20 percent, get 5,000 Michigan farms verified in the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program.
